England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan has admitted that veteran batsman Joe Root is very much in contention for a place in England’s squad for the T20 World Cup to be held later in the year. Root scored an unbeaten 79 not out off 87 balls as England defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Root was, however, not part of the T20I outfit that thrashed Sri Lanka 3-0 recently. Morgan though admitted that Root cannot be ruled out of the T20 World Cup.

Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey feels that the chances of India hosting the T20 World Cup this year appear very grim. India is battling a massive second wave of COVID-19 and is scheduled to hold the T20 World Cup in October-November.

The World T20 will finally happen this year back after a long gap of 5 years, and coincidently, the last time it was held was also in India way back in 2016. Had it not been for Covid, the scheduled WT20 would have happened in Australia last year, but nonetheless, we have the mega T20 event in only a few months time from now.

It was the year 2013 when Rahul Dravid promoted a 19-year old Sanju Samson to number three in a match against the RCB. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, the then youngster from Kerala blazed his way to a magnificent 63 as he helped his side chase down a target of 173. Since then, he has been known for playing all or nothing kind of knocks, he either wins you matches from nowhere or he simply throws his wicket away.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket recently. Pakistan's former pace bowling spearhead Shoaib Akhtar, however, believes that there is still a possibility of Dhoni playing the T20 World Cup next year.

Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts, on Friday, confirmed that the men's T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia later this year is under genuine threat owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. This, even as the ICC has not officially postponed the mega event yet. The 2020 T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in October-November this year.

Even as most of the talk in T20Is is centering around preparations for the upcoming World T20, Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma feels it is important to live in the present. India take on West Indies in the third and final T20I of the series to be played today at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The series is currently tied 1-1, with both teams having secured one win each.

With 2018 drawing to a close and with the T20 World Cup coming around in 2020, it was year of rebuilding for some countries and their T20I squads.
